About
A student and her parents built this as a forum for discussing Boarding Schools.
Points Of View on what they are (and what they are not), the decision to attend (or not), unvarnished comments on our school (and YOURS if you decide to apply!!!). Along the way we will talk about daily life, friendships, relationships, and the challenges that high schoolers everywhere face. We looked for such a source of honest talk when we first started looking – and found nothing. We hope you will find this useful!
Michelle: I’m 15 (at this writing), and I love writing, my cousins, and my dog: Jake! My dad suggested that it might be fun to write about my experience at boarding school, and all the work that lead up to being accepted at school. I love getting good grades, but I decided a long time ago, that I didn’t want to be one of the kids that studied ALL THE TIME. I know I need to maintain good grades in order for my parents to feel like they made a good decision (so I can stay), but it’s also important to me to get involved in other aspects of the school experience – athletics, extra curriculars, and I think maybe I’d like to try some of the leadership opportunities available at my school.
I’m excited to be here, excited to be sharing with you – boardingPOV readers – and I hope you’ll tell us what you think along the way!
Mom & Dad: We think we’re pretty average parents – wanting our daughter to be engaged in her own education, encouraging her to try new things, and we both come from a culture that values family. That’s what made the decision to send our dear Michelle to boarding school SO hard! We did compare her future school with local public and private school options – and found them lacking in some ways. Hopefully, if you read our story from the early posts, you’ll get a sense of what we weighed and balanced along the way.
A word about advertising: We do not accept products nor make product recommendations based on up-front pay of any kind. We WILL make recommendations through the Amazon Associates program, but only on products that we had already purchased, and decided were products that we thought readers might like to hear about. The Amazon program does pay a commission based on readers deciding that the product is interesting and deciding to buy it – but it is at the same price that you would receive if you went directly to Amazon’s website. We are hoping you will find value in a thing or two that we’ve discovered along the way. Thanks again for reading.
